Bodily exercise helps a little...

New Year, new goals. I decided it was high time I get back into a fitness regimen so I've been running on my treadmill and have started toning muscles with weights in the gym. After running 2 miles on the treadmill in a little over 24 minutes, the calorie read out said I only burned 350 calories or something. I didn't pay attention to closely because it was too depressing since I know a grande green tea frappuccino from the SB place has about 600 in it. I've been working out in the gym and on the treadmill pretty consistently since the beginning of the year and this verse comes to mind every time I see that irritating calorie counter on my treadmill: "Bodily exercise profits a little, but Godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come." (1st Timothy 4:8). Paul isn't kidding about it helping a little! Sure bodily exercise important since my body is the temple of God and I need to be around to help my wife with those boys of ours. Besides, I want to have a long and fruitful ministry for the Lord; but in the grand scheme of things, physical exercise doesn't fix all of my problems. Godliness on the other hand, being like Jesus, solves a lot of issues in my life. So I believe I'll keep running on that dumb treadmill knowing full well it's only helping me a little bit. I am going to do what verse 7 in that text says: "exercise yourself toward Godliness." I'm going to keep my spiritual muscles in tone by lifting the weight of my Bible every morning as it burns deep into my soul when I read it and I will keep getting aerobically fit on my knees in prayer as the the Holy Spirit gives me strength that I need for today's race. From my little corner to yours...

  1. THE BIBLIE AND THE DEPRESSION

"Then cometh Jesus with then unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples. Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me." (Matthew 26,36-38)

I think depression is one of the most tragic of which passes through the soul of a person, and because it disfigures the depression self-esteem, self, a sense of transcendence, and other qualities that make man the biggest creations of God. It is an evil that seeks to dispel that image that God placed in us.
In the Bible there are cases of people like Abraham, Moses, King David, the prophet Jeremiah, the prophet Jonah, the Old Testament and New Testament in the case of the apostle Peter and Paul, and even of the Lord Jesus Christ through times of depression.
Sin however I just want to refer to the text of Matthew 26,36-46 in showing that the Lord Jesus at the Garden of Gethsemane with his disciples, suffered a great depression because they experience a profound sadness and a mortal agony. The Lord Jesus looms the intense suffering that was going to experiment until his death at the hands of the Jews, so they turned to the Lord for a prayer that she can regain the strength and peace I needed to face their prueba.
Siendo that the Lord your face depression as any man and found out to them in prayer, this may be a good choice whether you are taking medications as therapy or as an act of faith to level the emotions that are found in our hectic hearts
